We’ve never been much for the southwestern desert. This trip didn’t change our feelings. Las Vegas is a great place but we just kept on going this time through.
We did stop in Nevada. It was in Mesquite, NV where we parked our RV in the hotel parking lot at a casino. It’s really amazing that there are so many businesses that extend a welcome to RV’s looking for a place to stay for a night. It works for them because most of the people that park will spend time and money in their businesses. It was an uneventful night after a long day of driving to get some mileage in.
Mesquite sits right on the Nevada side of the Nevada/Arizona border so as soon as we pulled out we entered the “Virgin River Gorge”. It is a really beautiful area in the far NW corner of the state. The road is under construction and shortly after we entered Arizona there was a notice that no vehicles wider than 10 feet were permitted on the interstate through the gorge.
We pulled off the road and tried to figure out if we were over 10 feet wide. We saw trucks going on and coming through from the other direction so we continued on.
It was an adventure cause that road was narrow with Jersey Barriers on both sides of the lane. There were spots where it was clear that in certain areas many vehicles had scraped along one side of the lane. We made it through unscathed and it was very scenic.
It was on this day we heard from Teri that she would be taking Licky into the vet because something was wrong. She seemed to be in pain and unable to climb the steps up onto the deck after going outside. We were unsure if we would be going on to Iowa or turning towards home. We altered our course deciding to head further north before heading east. Turned out to be a good decision for a couple of reasons.
It did not add substantial mileage or travel time to Iowa and Teri is a wonderfully qualified and caring person so Licky was in good hands. A great benefit of altering our route was we avoided what turned out to be some severe thunderstorms in Colorado. We also ended up in our favorite RV park of the trip so far.
